Village Arts Behavior and Safety Policies

Our mission at Village Arts is to provide a safe, fun, creative, and challenging environment that fosters individual growth in self-worth, responsibility, self-expression, community values, and independence. Our programs bring together diverse individuals under the guidance of trained leaders, working collaboratively to create unique productions or enhance skills in classes.

Key Behavior and Safety Expectations and Policies:

  • Chronic Health Conditions: Any student with a chronic health condition must have it documented by a licensed physician on the provided health history form. All medical information will be kept confidential.
  • Illness: To help maintain a healthy environment for everyone, please keep your child home from all programs if they are feeling unwell or showing any signs of illness. Even minor symptoms can be contagious and may put other children and staff at risk. Your cooperation is essential in preventing the spread of germs and ensuring the well-being of our entire community.
  • Bullying is Inexcusable: Bullying, whether physical, verbal, or through social media, is strictly prohibited. This includes exclusion, teasing, taunting, gossiping, hitting, kicking, or putting down others with intent to harm or gain power. All participants are expected to treat others with respect and support a positive experience. We address all incidents seriously and encourage open communication from students and staff. We can only manage what we know about.
  • Disruptive Conduct: Behavior that intentionally disrupts the normal operation of Village Arts programs, such as property destruction, refusing to cooperate with staff, consistently starting arguments, or harming others, may result in removal from a class or program, or even expulsion.
  • Dangerous Weapons: Items designed to cause bodily harm or deemed potentially harmful will be confiscated. Bringing such items into a class or rehearsal may lead to expulsion. Parents/guardians will be contacted.
  • Deceitful Activity: Lying or attempting to deceive staff members will result in disciplinary action.
  • Discrimination: We have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry, racism, or any form of discrimination, including discrimination based on race, religion, LGBTQ+ identity, gender identity, learning differences, or disabilities. We expect all members of our Village Arts community to uphold these values and treat each other with respect and empathy. Behavior or remarks that undermine our commitment to diversity and inclusion will not be tolerated. Our mission emphasizes coming together as one community where everyone feels important and has a positive experience. • Falsely Reported Emergencies: Any student tampering with emergency devices (e.g., fire alarms, smoke detectors) or making false 911 calls will face disciplinary action.

Behavior Management Policy

We believe every child deserves a positive experience. We establish clear expectations and boundaries for all participants.
Our Procedures:
  1. Initial Conversation: Staff will speak with the student to ensure they understand why their behavior is unacceptable and what the consequences are. They will clarify desired behavior and potential consequences. A “time out” may be used to allow the student to calm down and reflect.
  2. Repeated Behavior & Parent Involvement: If the behavior recurs, staff will inform the student it’s still unacceptable and involve the Village Arts Director. Parents or guardians will be contacted to discuss the situation and seek their cooperation and insight
  3. Navigating Persistent Behavior and Alternative Settings: In rare instances where a student;s behavior continues to significantly disrupt the program environment for themselves or others, we will work closely with families to determine the best path forward. Our aim is always to support the child, and in some cases, this may mean exploring alternative places where their needs can be better met. Please note that if a student is unable to continue in the program due to behavioral reasons, refunds will not be issued.
  4. Prioritizing Safety For All: If certain behaviors compromise the safety and respectful atmosphere we cultivate, will result in immediate removal from the program. These guidelines ensure a secure and nurturing space for all. Actions such as: using tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs, stealing, or any behavior that endangers themselves or others are behaviors that will result in immediate removal.
This policy reflects our commitment to guiding children toward self-discipline and empathy. By involving children in understanding their actions and partnering with guardians and families, we aim to cultivate a supportive community where every child thrives and grows safely in all our programs.
