Make masks, helmets, bracelets, wings, and more - out of cardboard! Cardboard is a tremendously versatile and accessible building material. With reDiscover Center’s tools and techniques, kids can build big, strong, amazing costume pieces. Transform into a wild animal, dive into the past, and explore new worlds. New costume themes and activities each week.

We're excited to be working with reDiscover.org, a non-profit center in Santa Monica. Their mission is: To develop children's creativity through hands-on making with sustainable materials.
They will be co-teaching these fun workshop at Village Arts!

8 CLASSES

Grades: 3rd-5th

Come make awesome stuff with us! Students will gain the skills they need to work confidently to design and build creations as wild as their imaginations. reDiscover Center Facilitators teach a mix of design, art, engineering, and woodworking activities. Classes include skills building, safe tool use, projects, and open build time. This hands-on, minds-on workshop is fun and creative!

Improv / Acting

Dates: Mondays, April 10 – May 22 (No class on school holidays)

  • Time: 3pm-4pm
Ms. Pam brings her years of experience to create a fun and immersive class that gently allows young children to ignite their imaginations and play. Kids explore drama through a diverse and playful dramatic curriculum designed to stimulate their creativity, increase their confidence, and promote connection with classmates in a safe and nurturing environment.

7 CLASSES 

Grade: 3rd-5th

  • Mondays: April 10  – May 22 (No class on school holidays)
  • Time: 4pm-5pm
Ms. Pam has designed this course for the older elementary student. During the eight week session, kids explore drama through a diverse and playful dramatic curriculum designed to stimulate their creativity, increase their confidence, and promote connection with classmates in a safe and nurturing environment. Kids will learn improvisation, play theatre games, and start work with character and text work to develop a stronger understanding of acting.

Wednesday Classes

Dates: Wednesdays, March 22 – May 17 (No class on school holidays)

Students will learn basic photography concepts such as light, subject, composition, and creative editing in fun and creative ways. Each week the students will participate in hands-on lessons designed to engage and inspire the art of Photography.

  • Time: 3:00PM – 4:00PM
Let’s play! Theatre games, creating stories, and more. This class is designed to allow the 1st and 2nd graders to discover the inspiration that comes from creative play, which naturally leads to the joys of creating together. Physical movement, clowning, costumes, props, etc., are used to help ignite each child’s imagination to develop silly characters and stories as they work together.

Dates: Thursdays, March 23 – May 18 (No class on school holidays)

Village Arts and Colfax Charter's art teacher, Mrs. Klace, bring her warm spirit and humor to create an art class for all students. The emphasis of this class will be on creating works in both clay and other materials. Each class Ms. Klace provides the students with a prompt that will inspire students to explore the various mediums she introduces. The class will alternate with working in clay and other materials.

Let's play games! Let’s act out stories.  Let’s make our own stories. This fun workshop is all play! You will learn to act and plays dozens of Theater Games. Maybe we can even put on our own show! Let’s play!

Students will need to take this first class should they want to advance into our sketch comedy program.
