Go-Karting 

Grades: 3rd-5th

  • Tuesday: 10 Classes August 29–October 31 (No class on school holidays)
  • Time (Class only): 4:30PM – 5:45PM ($325)
  • Time (Class with HWC): 1:30PM-5:45PM ($685) HWC-add on is for the 10 sessions of this class. 

Come make awesome stuff with us! Students will gain the skills they need to work confidently to design and build creations as wild as their imaginations. reDiscover Center Facilitators teach a mix of design, art, engineering, and woodworking activities. Classes include skills building, safe tool use, projects, and open build time. This hands-on, minds-on workshop is fun and creative!

The Homework Club Add-On option schedule is for 2 hours (Mon/Wed-Fri) or 3 hours (Tues) of homework club before or after your Village Arts Class and is for 10 sessions. If you wish to enroll in other days of HWC, please sign up for those additional days separately. 

This does not apply for Middle School students.

Makers Day: Go-Karting 

Come make awesome stuff! Using lessons in design, art, engineering, and woodworking taught by reDiscover Center facilitators, students will use recycled materials and their imagination to create small- and large-scale carts built to race! Students become proficient with handsaws, drills, and other hand tools during this 10-week session. This hands-on, minds-on workshop is fun and creative! 

Teachers:

German Diaz is an artist, illustrator and educator. He has been a teacher at reDiscover Center since 2020. Diaz was born and raised in Los Angeles. In his work, he rotates mediums and focuses on concepts relating to the horrors of climate change and the treatment of brown children. Diaz has had his paintings shown in multiple art galleries and sold his work in large conventions. His works ranges from a collaboration with “Viva La Puppets” for a Facebook commercial, Laurie Sefton for dance performances, and cardboard based illustration and sculpture at Cardboard City. Diaz has a BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Karl has been a teacher at reDiscover Center since 2013. Karl has been an Artist in Residence at the LATE Academies and Renaissance Programs in New York. He has taught art and design in various locations in Los Angeles for several years, participated in “Debating Through the Arts” at the 18th Street Art Center in Los Angeles, and was recently exhibited at Lambert Fine Arts in New York. MFA in Film/Video and Fine Art, California Institute of the Arts.
